I like the summery print and the lady loves the overall effect. She had insisted on the rosette, which was a good idea.

The rosette was made from this excellent tutorial (http://portabellopixie.typepad.com/portabellopixie/2008/07/rolled-roses.html) . Just not able to link it up.

For the bodice, used one of the previous patterns since they fit her well. For the skirt took 3 times the waist. The ruffles on the neck are almost four times. It’s a fully lined frock since the fabric needs body. Added buckram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckram) on the hem of the lining for added stiffness at the hem. No, I did not use bookbinding buckram

One of the sources of inspiration for kids clothing is their school. Some time back when Scooby was doing the life cycle of the butterfly, I had made this . Before that was the Lola dress. Scooby had also enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar t-shirt, which started as her b’day t-shirt and ended up being used for class-room reading sessions.

Moving on…Uvi loves Nursery rhymes. I am sure he does not open his month in the class but at home, it never closes. The school had been doing “Animal Friends” as a unit for a couple of months now. Out of the dozen rhymes taught to them, his favourite rhyme is

G, g for the giraffe,

I like his long long long neck too.

But what I like the best.

In honour of the rhyme

The man refuses to model.

I used the image from his favourite book “Ha, Ha Giraffe”.

Photo copied the image that I liked. Enlarged it to 200%. Copied it onto a tracing sheet. Removed the clutter keeping applique in view. Then followed the basic applique technique.

He loves it. Very satisfying.

This was also my first attempt at adjustable waistband elastic.

Happy with the result and the technique. Must do a tute sometime.

Something I enjoyed making for Scooby for the Oct break. Love to work with checks. The lines are awesome reference points.

The runaway model story all the time every time. Not complaining. As long as she continues wearing what I make …

Used the bodice and the sleeve pattern from previous frocks. Altered the sleeve pattern to puff. Added the skirt.

Sleeve details include french knots and solid fabric tape. Bodice has pleated fabric at the neck, bias tape and lace at the bodice along with fabric covered buttons. Added solid fabric to the skirt along with lace and bias tape. Bias tape at the hem to complete the look.

A couple of years back I had bought a Burda pattern set which also included a pattern for a top. It was always on my to-do list since I liked the clear lines of the pattern. Did not do anything about it till just before our Oct holiday.

Scooby loves the feel of the fabric.

I loved making it from everything in-house

Awesome carvings. A must see.

Embellishments are woven tapes, ric-rac and embroidered roses for buttons. All hems are piped-in..

Inside Nemo B’day

Uvi’s 3rd B’day was a Nemo B’day by demand.

For the decore, Dadda skteched some “Finding Nemo” characters from Scooby’s drawing book

These were enlarged and copied on card stock paper and details added. Could not find a good orange for the Nemo so painted it.

I had seen an easy craft for three year olds on one of the sites. (Sorry don’t remember from where so can’t give credit. Pls alert if you know from where. TIA). Cut out 1/5 of the circle to make the mouth and stick the resultant triangle at the back to make a tail. Buy lots of googly eyes and craft supplies to give the children a free hand.

Nemo applique was sketched by Dadda

I got it enlarged to fit the t-shirt and used an old orange t-shirt to construct the applique. Used fabric paints to add the details.

Good fun. Yet another jammies. My model refuses to model for me. But loves it. Love the model and the jammies. An easy fun project.

Added a contrast peeking facing for the sleeve and leg opening, and placket. Pipe-in for the neck.

Added a contrast pocket and patch. Patch was not required. Need more designing effort.

Latest in Uvi’s wardrobe

Uvi has the smallest waist in the whole wide world. And he needs to go to the wash room in a hurry. So, I decided he will need to live with elastic pants for the time being. Out came the cords bought 2 years back for a very small boy and hence a very patched personalised pair of pants. For once excited to model for me.

Finally got around to doing something original… O.k. as original as it can get.

Presenting the jammies.

It was a stash clearing project. This particular project is from Scooby’s cot sheet and a saree blouse fabric. The print is sunny…oops starry and colours nice.

Uvi refused to wear it. I was disappointed. He saw the look on my face and clarified. “Mamma made it. Nice. Thank youuu. Will wear tomorrow morning. Will get dirty.”

Added some painted zzzzzz’s on the placket

and piped-in neck edge and hems. The picture doesn’t show the side slit. Almost a kurta/pyjama. The neck too big, the sleeve and leg opening a tiny bit small, the hem not very rounded. Yes, needs to be developed.

Gave me a basis to redo the pattern. Pattern corrected and waiting for more action.
